Yoshindo Yoshihara is world’s foremost present-day katana swordsmith. He has crafted works for the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, and countless other institutions and individuals around the world. His mastery and technique has contributed to the spread of sword making as a true work of art. At 77 years of age, he still continues to craft each sword by hand.
Due to the pandemic, Master Yoshihara was forced to temporarily close his atelier and stop taking in apprentices for more than 6 months. As Master Yoshihara’s main cultural partner in Japan, we are extremely honored to be the first and only digital distributors of his work. We hope to support the long-lasting tradition and artistry of his craft through our Japan Shop.
LONG katana

Forged by the legendary swordsmith Yoshindo Yoshihara, these katana are considered to be some of the highest quality swords in the entire world. The superior level of craftsmanship of his swords has been recognized internationally, and his works have been exhibited at renowned art establishments.
We recommend those interested in purchasing the Long Katana visit his atelier before purchasing, as all swords are crafted upon custom requests. The experience of engaging with Master Yoshihara and witnessing the intricate and complex making process is a truly unique moment, bringing new meaning and appreciation to the craft.
As Master Yoshihara's katana are custom-made, he requires a minimum of 12 months to complete one blade. A full-sized katana will begin at a price of JPY 7,000,000. However, please note that the price will vary depending on the amount of ornamentation requested.

We are extremely honored to share the short katana handcrafted by Yoshihara, only available for purchase on our Japan Shop. Each katana is a true work of art, all featuring engravings designed and carved by Yoshihara. Each katana features a different engraving and carries a different story to tell. Designs include his signature dragon motif, as well as Buddhist statues which he carved to serve as amulet charms for the owner.

Every katana will be packaged in a wooden box, with a message on the box upon request.
Shipping Information
Please check the regulations of your country for importing katana. A small katana is categorized as paper knife by the size, therefore it can be shipped to all countries. The price for each item includes consumption tax, shipping charges, shipping insurance, and customs fee charged for exporting from Japan. Please note that the price does not include a possible customs fee charged by your country for importing the item.
