The untouched nature makes Hokkaido the ideal place for those who love the outdoors. Truly experience the most of each season with their frozen winters and blazing summers. During the winter, Hokkaido is the go-to place for skiing and is home to the famous Sapporo Snow Festival. During the summer, bathe in a rainbow of lavenders in their never ending flower field. The coastal areas offer the freshest of seafood, with each city offering a unique specialized dish. Hokkaido is also home to the Ainu, an indigenous tribe that adds another layer of culture to Japan.

SAPPORO

Located on Japan’s northernmost island of Hokkaido, Sapporo is simultaneously one of the country’s biggest yet youngest cities. During the winter months, visitors can enjoy the frosty beauty of the city’s famous snow sculptures during the Sapporo Snow Festival, while they can savor the city’s famous beer and ramen during the summer festival season. Downtown, tourists can visit a variety of different shopping centers, such as the Sapporo Factory, and other attractions, like the Odori Park in the center of the city. Sapporo is also home to a wealth of museums, such as the Sapporo Beer Museum, home to the history of the city’s specialty product, and the Ainu Museum, which is devoted to the history of the Ainu, the indigenous people of Hokkaido. Outside the city, visitors flock to the different ski resorts and onsen that call the landscape surrounding Sapporo their home.

NISEKO

Winter sports fanatics need not look further than Niseko in Hokkaido for their next snowy adventure. This northern town is famous for its quality powder snow, and is consequently home to the most famous ski resort in Japan. Niseko’s charms are not limited to the winter months, however--tourists can enjoy various activities such as cycling, rafting, kayaking, hiking, and even horseback riding in the summer, too.
